Plain and simple…. but clearly it’s not so simple in our culture. We have to eat to live. Yet many of us struggle with how to eat or what to eat everyday. Michael Pollan put’s it best. ”Eat food. Not too much. Mostly Plants.”
So here’s some advice on how to simply eat. And eat better.
Eat For Fuel.
In America we tend to not eat often enough. Yet we also tend eat too much. So often we skip breakfast, skimp on lunch, and then feast at dinner like a King only to start this vicious cycle the next day. Why do we do this? We don’t eat enough. So eat to fuel your body. If we ate to satisfy and fuel ourselves, not would we have more energy, but we would probably eat more often too.
We wouldn’t let our cars run on empty all day. Then why do we let our bodies run on empty?
Eat Real Food.
What is real food? Most likely if you can’t pronounce the ingredients, it’s not the best thing to put in your body. Our bodies are created to eat and digest foods that are whole, foods closest to their natural state. The more enriched, bleached, and processed foods are, the more difficult it is for our bodies to digest.
Eating real foods doesn’t mean just eat fruits and veggies all day. Real foods can be pizza, sandwiches, tacos and yes… desserts. Realize every time hunger strikes it’s an opportunity to fuel your body or weigh it down (no pun intended.) Get creative, check out your farmer’s markets or Whole Foods for ideas on new fresh meals.
Eat What You Like.
Eating should be a joy, not a chore. Chances are when you eat what you enjoy you won’t have the tendency to overeat, especially when you’re eating to stay satisfied throughout the day. Diets that force a list of certain foods aren’t a way of life. Really, who wants to live that way? So eat food. Enjoy it and go live your life.

Hi Kristin!
Everyday I go here in hope of finding some new video or text or just to read the older ones one more time.
I just found your blog a few weeks ago, but I must say that you are so freakin’ awesome!
This latest video was hilarious with some really good pointers! You are an inspiration!
Have a great day!
I love this stuff Kristin. It is so true that each day we live on both sides of extremes as far as eating – eating not often enough, but when we do eat we gorge… it’s just silly. I loved it. Keep it up.
So this has been my favorite so far!! I’m so glad you are enjoying your fav’s throughout the week rather than waiting for the ritual weekend gorge! I love you and am so proud of you for doing this! It’s nice to have someone to refer others too when they ask me why I am crazy in living and eating the way that I do…and now Aaron does too YAYYA! Well take care and hope you are enjoying yourself in the BIG CITY!
Mandy! Miss & love you guys too. Thank God I’ve let go of some those ridiculous college rituals
huh?
Gabby, glad you are enjoying the blog! You guys are all so encouraging. Thanks!
LOVE IT!! You made me want to listen – and laugh!! Can’t wait to see whats next….
Great message! I agree with your message of eating real food. I struggle with it at times–I have a bit of a salty snack issue; but try to stay away from it for the most part.
I am so enjoying your blog. Looking forward to the next one…
Bravo! Loved this one, Kristi! I had a certain uncle watch it since he has been a “weekend splurger”. LOL Hope you’re enjoying yourself! xo
Great video. I think this one should be on youtube and it could go viral. I was rolling on the floor. Great movie clip placement! Especially the “What about Bob” clips. It makes me proud to have the name “Bob”! Can’t wait to see the next video blog.
Way to go, Kristin!
Kristin, Great Video. Wow, you are all grown up and this is wonderful and so on target. I remember when we first came to the Burlington Christian center and some people thought we were a little strange with our diet. Our diet consisted of most “real” food, and whole grains and not processed, high fructose, lots of preservatives etc. I am inspiring this way of life even all the more since my back injury 10 years ago that left me bedridden for 6 months and gaining 70+ pounds. I am on my way again to loosing the weight with proper food and exercise. Fortunately none of my children are over weight and I mean none. I think this is video is great. I love it!! You look great!! Your parents must be proud. Much love from here in Mass. =)
Kristin,
Your last two posts about food, really hit home for me. I loved your statement about “Eating what you like.” It seems like such a darn simple concept, yet so many of us insist on eating everything BUT. Which I think in turn leads to consuming more than we would of if we just ate the thing we really wanted in the first place. Keep the posts coming…you are inspiring:-)
